India, China in border skirmish in North Sikkim
Troops of India and China were locked in a skirmish and many of them sustained minor injuries in a physical combat near Naku La in North Sikkim sector along the Sino-India border yesterday, said official sources.
The troops disengaged after local-level interaction and dialogue, the sources said.
Such short-duration face-off occurs as the boundary issues are not resolved, according to the sources.
Troops resolve such issues mutually as per established protocols, they said.
In 2017, India and China were involved in a 73-day standoff after Chinese military undertook a road construction in Doklam near Trijunction of India-China-Bhutan border.
That standoff had caused a deep stress on relations between India and China before it was resolved through the diplomatic channel and after the Chinese army stopped the road construction, following which, India withdrew its troops.
The standoff was followed by revamping of Sino-India relations with the first-ever informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Wuhan in 2018 which paved the way for normalisation of the ties.
This was followed by another summit between Modi and Xi in Mahabalipuram, the sea side tourist town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, last year.
