India allows private hospitals to serve as Covid-19 vaccination centres
India today allowed all private hospitals with adequate facilities to serve as Covid-19 vaccination centres as its expanded inoculation drive entered the second day.
The directive came after Indian Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan chaired a high-level review meeting today with top officials of different states through video conference discussing the pace of the second phase of the countrywide vaccination programme which began on March 1.
In addition to all government health facilities, all private hospitals can function as Covid-19 vaccination centres by meeting certain specifications.
The state authorities were asked to fully utilise capacities of all private hospitals.
Private hospitals which are not under the government health schemes can operate as centres if they have adequate number of vaccinators, enough space for observation of the vaccinated, adequate cold chain arrangement and arrangement for management of adverse effects.
The states have been asked to ensure adequate allocation of vaccines to all government and private hospitals for the entire duration for which vaccination sessions has been planned.
