Blast near Israel Embassy: Modi assures Netanyahu of quick action against perpetrators
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone where Modi assured him that India would deploy all its resources to find and punish the perpetrators of a blast near the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi last Friday.
A statement issued by the Indian PM's office said Modi "conveyed his strong condemnation of the terror attack near the Israeli Embassy on January 29, 2021. He assured Prime Minister Netanyahu that India accords the highest importance to the safety and security of Israeli diplomats and premises and would deploy all its resources to find and punish the perpetrators."
Both leaders expressed satisfaction about the coordination between Indian and Israeli security agencies in this context, the statement said.
The two leaders also briefed each other on the progress of the fight against Covid-19 pandemic in their respective countries. They also discussed possibilities of further collaboration in this area, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The phone call was initiated by Netanyahu who thanked Modi for his government's efforts to safeguard Israeli representatives in the aftermath of the blast near the Israeli Embassy, the mission said on its official Twitter handle.
"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke today by telephone with Indian Prime Minister @narendramodi and thanked him for his government's efforts to safeguard Israeli representatives in the aftermath of the terrorist event near the Israeli Embassy in India," the Embassy said.
A low intensity improvised explosive device or IED went off near the Israel Embassy on APJ Abdul Kalam Road in the heart of Delhi but there was no was casualty or injury.
The Delhi Police Special Cell's initial probe suggested that the aim of the blast was to send a message to Israel on the topic of Iran. A letter, addressed to Israeli Ambassador Ron Malka, was recovered, which mentioned the killing of top Iranian military officer Qasem Soleimani and Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh last year. Indian security agencies are probing the blast.
