India’s 30-day lockdown successful in curbing Covid-19: health ministry
India has succeeded in minimising coronavirus transmission in 30 days of the lockdown so far, the country's health ministry said today.
Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Aggarwal told the media that no new case of Covid-19 has been reported from 78 districts spread across 23 states and federally-ruled territories in the country in the last 14 days, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
There are 12 districts as of today which did not report a fresh case in the last 28 days or more, Aggarwal also said.
Aggarwal said the recovery rate remains at 19.89 percent of the total number of Covid-19 patients.
According to the health ministry's data, 1,417 Covid-19 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 21,393 in India.
Meanwhile, a mobile virology research and diagnostics laboratory has been developed by the state-owned Defence Research Development Organization.
Inaugurating the lab via video conference, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the facility, set up in a record time of just 15 days, will help test 1,000-1,200 samples in a day and will enhance the country's capabilities in fighting coronavirus.
The mobile viral research lab, built as per the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) to meet international guidelines, will be also helpful to carry out virus culturing for drug screening, convalescent plasma derived therapy and comprehensive immune profiling of Covid-19 patients towards vaccine development for early clinical trials specific to Indian population, according to an official statement of the defence ministry.
