Illegal rice hoarding: DNCRP to conduct drives at mills, warehouses
After retail and wholesale markets, the Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP) has now decided to conduct drives at the mills and warehouses of millers and corporates to check illegal rice hoarding.
The decision was taken today (June 6, 2022) at a meeting held by the DNCRP at its office attended by stockists, millers, corporates, and superstores' owners to keep rice supply and its price stable.
"After conducting drives at the retail and wholesale markets, we are now turning our focus on millers and corporations. Millers and corporates are asked to provide information about their rice stock," DNCRP Director General AHM Shafiquzzaman told the Daily Star.
The drive will begin next week, he said.
Asked about the meeting findings, DNCRP DG said, "We've seen a blame game. Everyone says they are right and not involved in malpractice."
He also said they have noticed huge price gaps between superstore and suppliers. "Why is there such a big gap in price? We'll hold a meeting with both parties soon to discuss the matter," he said.
