Covid surge: 15,440 cases reported in 24 hours, 20 dead

At least 15,440 new infections were recorded and 20 people died from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8 am today, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The current positivity rate is 33.37 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 14.27 percent.

The total number of Covid-19 deaths in the country now stands at 28,308 and the mortality rate stands at 1.61 percent. Meanwhile, the total number of cases rose to 17,62,771, added the release.

A total of 46,268 samples were tested across the country in the 24 hours.

At least 1,326 patients have recovered from Covid-19 during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 15,62,369 and the recovery rate at 88.63 percent, added the release.

Of the 20 deceased, eight were male and 12 female. Of them, one was under 10 years old, two were between 11-20, one between 21-30, two between 41-50 years old and 14 were above 60 years old, added the release.
