Covid Pandemic: Daily record shattered again with 6,830 cases
The number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise in the country.
Yesterday, 6,830 new infections were recorded, taking the total number of infected people to 624,594. It was the highest number of cases recorded in a single day since the detection of first coronavirus cases in the country on March 8 last year.
On Thursday, the number of positive cases was 6,469.
The current positivity rate is 23.28 percent, while the total positivity rate stands at 13.21 percent.
Data from the Directorate General of Health Services shows that after a dip, the number of Covid-19 cases started increasing from mid-March.
Since the detection of the first cases in the country, the lowest monthly infection rate of 2.82 percent was recorded in February this year. The following month, it jumped to 10.39 percent.
The DGHS data shows that 65,079 people were infected last month. Of them, 50,408 tested Covid-19 positive in the last 15 days of the month.
Meanwhile, 50 people died from the virus in 24 hours ending at 8:00am yesterday, according to a press release issued by the DGHS.
Among the deceased, 40 were men and 10 women. One was aged between 21 and 30, two were within 31-40, four between 41 and 50, 11 within 51-60 and 32 were above 60 years old, added the release.
The death toll from Covid-19 in the country has reached 9,155, and 6,887 of them were men and 2,268 women. Over 5,100 of the deceased were aged above 60. The highest number of deaths was registered (5,228) in Dhaka division.
This year, 1,596 people died from novel coronavirus infections so far, and the record shows that over 500 died in the last 15 days.
Some 2,473 Covid patients recovered in the same 24-hour period, raising the total number of recoveries to 547,411.
The recovery rate is now 87.64 percent.
