The pope’s message to Brazilians: It will happen another time

Pope Francis, who is Argentinean, consoled Brazil football fans after the team’s World Cup exit. He tried to cheer them up in Saint Peter's Square during his traditional Sunday blessing at the Vatican in Rome, Italy.

Brazil may still win yet another World Cup and probably eventually will, admitted the Pope.

"I see Brazilian flags and I greet the Brazilians and encourage them," he said."It will happen another time."

He then wished the crowd a pleasant Sunday and reminded them to pray.

The Brazil national team were knocked out of the 2018 Russia World Cup on Friday evening, losing 2-1 to Belgium in a quarterfinal tie. Meanwhile, Argentina were eliminated from World Cup contention in the first of the knockout rounds.
