Teesta water crosses danger level in Lalmonirhat
Water flow of the Teesta river crossed the danger level at Daoni area in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district this morning near Teesta barrage -- inundating the riverside and homes in low-lying areas.
The water level started rising from last night and has been flowing 60cm above the danger level, caused by a heavy onrush from upstream India, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports quoting Mizanur Rahman, executive engineer of Water Development Board in Lalmonirhat.
He said that all 44 gates of Teesta Barrage are kept open due to the onrush pressure from upstream.
Lutfar Rahman, a farmer from Doani village in Hatibandha upazila, said his Aman paddy field has been flooded. The flood situation has arisen due to sudden rise in Teesta's water level. His crops may be fully damaged if the water level does not drop in the next 2-3 days, he said.
