Flood water slowly receding in Sirajganj after 20 days
After 20 days of continuous rise, the Jamuna river's water level has begun to drop.
However, the river continues to flow 57 cm above the danger level, reports our correspondent quoting Sirajganj Water Development Board (WDB),
Md Nasir Uddin, the sub-divisional engineer of Sirajganj WDB, said that Jamuna is flowing at 13.92 meters around the district's Hard Point this morning, as opposed to 14.02 meters the previous day. Water level decreased by 8 cm at Kazipur point during the same period.
"The river's water level will drop over the next few days, but stagnant water in flood-affected areas will take longer to drain," Nasir said.
Md Abdur Rahim, Sirajganj district relief and rehabilitation officer (DRRO) told our local correspondent that this year's floods have reportedly affected over 1.5 lakh people in 35 unions across five upazilas in the district, but the actual flood damage report is yet to be released.
