Flash floods likely to hit haors in 3 north-eastern districts: Forecast
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) forecasted a flash flood likely to hit haors in three north-eastern districts after a heavy rainfall between April 10 to 17.
In a special report circulated by FFWC Executive Engineer Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan, the flash flood is forecasted in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
Citing Bangladesh Meteorological Department and several other international weather organisations, the report stated that heavy rainfall is likely between April 10 to 17 in the north and north-eastern region of the country and in India's Assam (Barak Valley) and Meghalaya provinces.
Due to the heavy rainfall, the water level of Surma, Kushiyara, Jadukata, Luvachhara, Sari Gowain, Dhalagang, Piyain, Balukhali, Someshwari, Bhugai-Kongsho, Dhanu-Boulai rivers at some point will flow over the danger level, read the report.
The report mentioned that flash floods will hit several areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrokona districts after the window of April 10 to 17.
Earlier on April 1, a flash flood hit the haor districts of the north-eastern region triggered by heavy rainfalls in India's Meghalaya.
More than 7,000 hectares of Boro cropland submerged incurring a loss of an estimated Tk 125 crore at the time.
