Depression in Bay: 21.2mm rain in Barishal region

Due to deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal, it has been raining intermittently in the Barishal region since this morning.

Barishal Meteorological Office recorded 21.2 mm rains in the last 24 hours in the southern region, confirmed Senior Observer of the met office Md Masud Rana Rubel. 

The local river port in the region has flooded due to the 2-3 feet higher tidal waves. The met office has asked the local river port to hoist warning signal number 2, and warning signal number 3 for the maritime ports, reports our Barishal correspondent.

Speedboat and trawler movements in Barishal have been suspended, said river port officer Md Mostafizur Rahman. 

Anisur Rahman Talukder, deputy director of the Barishal Divisional Fisheries Department, said all fishing boats were asked to come ashore, and about half a million fishermen in the south region have taken shelter in a safe zone along with their trawlers and boats. 

Following the instruction, fishermen have returned to shore, said Golam Mostafa, president of the Barguna District Fishermen's Trawler Association, adding at least 2,000 trawlers have taken shelter at Patharghata of Barguna.

Alauddin Hawlader, a hilsa fisherman from Bhola Sadar, said at least 500 hilsa fishing trawlers have also taken shelter at a place called Charpata in Bhola Sadar.
