30-sec tornado damages 50 houses in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila
Fifty houses belonging to 30 families were damaged as tornado hit two villages in Faridpur's Bhanga upazila early today.
According to locals, the storm hit the villages -- Chumurdi and Pirerchar -- around 1:00am and lasted for only 30 seconds.
It also uprooted more than 200 trees in the areas, our Faridpur correspondent reports quoting the locals.
Zakariya Munshi, a resident of Chumurdi village and a member of Chumurdi union parishad, said that he woke up during the storm and when he opened the door, he saw the wind trying to blow the tin-roof away.
Kohinoor Begum, another villager, said, "Suddenly I heard a huge sound and saw the tin-roof was blown away."
SM Habibur Rahman, chairman of Bhanga upazila, and Md Azimuddin, Bhanga Upazila Nirbahi Officer, visited the villages around noon today.
UNO Azimuddin added, "Total 30 families were affected by the tornado. We have allocated 10 kg rice and Tk 1,000 each for the families affected by the storm. We will also distribute tins among them."
