No one could say anything negative about him: Anjana
Noted producer-director Azizur Rahman Buli breathed his last at 3:20 am, early in the morning, in the capital's Red Care Hospital. He was 76. The news was confirmed by renowned director, Sohanur Rahman Sohan.
The artiste made his directorial debut in 1970, with the film "Nacher Putul". While he made his acting debut in the year 1980, with the film, "Shesh Uttar".
"Bondhu Jeno Shotru'' was his last acted film.
He was amongst the first to shoot a Dhallywood film in the USA.
Some of his notable films are—"Julie", "Amar Sansar", "Himmatwali", "Nawabjadi", "Matimahal", "Love in Nepal", "Love in Singapore", "Shaadi Mubarak" and "Kalu Gunda" among many others.
Azizur Rahman Buli was also formerly the president of Bangladesh Film Directors Association. He was born in Old Dhaka on May 1, 1946.
Film actress Anjana was once Azizur Rahman Buli's life partner. She also acted in a good number of films directed by him. After receiving news of his death, the actress broke into tears.
Anjana shared some memories with the deceased filmmaker-producer with The Daily Star.
"Modern thinkers like Azizur Rahman Buli were rare in the industry," she shared in an emotional tone, over the phone. "He tried to bring changes in our film industry, by bringing the variation in locations in the films."
According to Anjana, during the 80s there was no director or producer who would pluck up the courage to shoot films in the foreign countries.
"No one could even think of doing that, it was a matter of a lot of money," she shared. "He was equally successful as a director and producer."
She, in this regard, referred to the film "Love in Singapore", which features Babita.
While sharing about Buli's works, the actress shared memories of him. "After our marriage, I was featured only in two of his films– 'Lalu Sardar' and 'Nepali Meye'," she added.
"As a director, he always took care of what his audience would like to watch. He always had a vision to take Bangladeshi cinema to another level."
When asked about how he was as a person, Anjana expressed her heartfelt emotions.
"He was gentle as a person, and someone you would never hear speaking out loud," said Anjana. "No one could ever say anything negative about him. His personality would impress everyone."
Anjana asked for prayers for Buli from everyone.
