Won’t spare anyone in case of irregularities: Ishraque
BNP’s Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral candidate Israque Hossain today said, “We will not spare anyone this time if we get any news of or observe any irregularity.”
Ishraque, who is a first-time voter, made the remark after casting his vote at Shaheed Shahjahan Government Primary School on Ramkrishna Mission Road in the city’s Gopibagh area around 9am.
He also alleged that the party’s polling agents were barred from entering polling stations.
“We have received reports from multiple areas that our polling agents are not being allowed inside and we have already informed magistrates about this,” he told reporters during a briefing.
Now that he has cast his vote, Ishraque said he will continue to visit polling stations all day.
The BNP mayoral aspirant also said he would stay on the field until voting ends to ensure no one takes control of polling centres.
“I am ready to face any obstacle today and I may get attacked, but I will fight to protect my votes and to ensure the polling centres are not under anyone’s control.”
Ishraque also alleged that he received reports from different polling stations where CCTV connections were cut off and said they have photo and video footage of the incident.
Ishraque hails power of public
The mayor aspirant also highlighted an incident at Bangshal 34-ward. “Awami League supporters were trying to enter one polling centre and then tried to create pressure to switch on the voting machine,” he said.
“One of our supporters was also beaten up. In fact, he recieved severe a blow to his head. But locals protested and the men were driven out of the area. This is a victory of the public,” Ishraque added.
