Ekushey Boi Mela set to start from Feb 15

This year's Amar Ekushey Boi Mela will start from February 15.

After a meeting today, Dr Jalal Ahmed, member secretary of the book fair management committee and director of Bangla Academy, confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

"The fair is set to end on February 28, according to the cultural ministry's directive. The publishers, however, have suggested that the fair deadline be extended to March 17. We'll send that proposal to the ministry," he said.

Jalal Ahmed further said that the meeting also discussed how the fair can be held in accordance with health regulations.

Although the fair starts on February 1 every year, the tradition was broken last year as well. It started on March 18 due to the pandemic and also ended early -- on April 12, instead of April 14 -- after the government enforced a countrywide lockdown around that time.
