Took 8 years to analyse Hefajat’s 2013 mayhem as it was a ‘big incident’: DMP
Because the mayhem that Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh carried out across the country on May 5, 2013 was such a "big incident", it took around 8-years to analyse the footage, sort out the evidence and take the testimony, police said today.
AKM Hafiz Akter, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said this while addressing a reporter's query at the media centre in the capital's Minto road today.
The accused in the cases are now being arrested in following investigation but it may take some more days to complete the investigation, said Hafiz, also the chief of DMP DB police.
"We did not want any innocent person to face the law. Therefore, we are investigating the case after analysing the confessional statement," he said.
However, the cases are moving more quickly than before and the investigation will be completed as soon as possible, he said.
Regarding the ongoing arrest, he said that the non-political organisation has been carrying out violence in different places including Dhaka and Brahmanbaria centering the recent visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangladesh.
"The task of our law enforcement agencies is to prosecute the perpetrators of sabotage and bring them under the law following investigation. Police is now only bringing those into custody those who were found involved in sabotage and incitement after analyzing video footage and conducting investigation into it," he said.
He further said those who are not guilty can stay at home without any hindrance.
