Swechchhasebak League leader arrested for assaulting Natore Water Development Board engineer

A Swechchhasebak League leader was arrested after a case was filed against him for physically assaulting an executive engineer of Natore Water Development Board.

Police arrested Nafiul Islam Antar, general secretary of Swechchhasebak League's Natore municipality unit and also the nephew of local MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul from his home in Bargachha area of ​​the city around 5:30pm this afternoon, our correspondent reports quoting Litan Kumar Saha, superintendent of police in Natore district.

Earlier in the day, he was sued for physically assaulting Abu Raihan, an executive engineer of the Natore Water Development Board on Monday afternoon.

The injured Abu Raihan was admitted to Natore Sadar Hospital.

According to police, Antar and his father Mir Amirul Islam Jahan, a contractor who works for the WDB and also the treasurer of Natore district Awami League, got into an altercation with the executive engineer when he questioned the quality of the construction work.

At one stage, Antar physically assaulted the engineer. The WDB officials and workers rescued and took him to Natore Sadar Hospital, police said.

Later, Raihan filed a case against Antar with Natore Police Station on charge of assaulting him and obstructing a government official from performing his duties, police added.
