Police cordon off under-construction building in Ctg
Police and the bomb disposal unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police has cordoned off an eight-storey under-construction building in the port city's Chandgaon bus stand area tonight after recovering crude bomb-like objects and handmade bamboo torches from the second floor.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) (North) Bijoy Basak of CMP told journalists at the spot, "On information, police rushed to the building and found cocktail bomb-like objects inside. Apart from that newly made bamboo torches were found in another room.
"We preserved the bomb-like objects in a room as there is a technical problem of disposing bombs or bomb-like objects at night," he said.
Meanwhile, police detained one Rabbi (20) from the spot while he was trying to flee, said Rajesh Barua, inspector (investigation) of Chandgaon Police Station.
Police sources said Rabbi is a mason by profession and was asked to come to the building by unidentified men. Rabbi told police that he made the bamboo torches for Tk 600. But he could not say who brought him to the place.
DC Bijoy Basak said police are investigating the matter.
