PBI investigating 16 cases against Hefajat men
A total of 16 cases -- filed following the recent violence by Hefajat-e-Islam in six districts -- were transferred to Police Bureau of Investigation.
PBI Chief Banaj Kumar Majumder confirmed the development to The Daily Star.
"We received the cases last week and are investigating them," he said.
The sixteen cases are filed with different police station in Chattogram, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria.
Earlier on April 18, 23 other cases filed against Hefajat leaders were handed over to Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Of the 23 cases, 18 were filed over the violence and arson attacks that took place from March 26 to 28 in different districts including Chattogram and Brahmanbaria, according to law enforcement officials.
