Hefajat leader Habibullah Quasemi arrested from Dhaka
Detectives today claimed to have arrested a Hefajat-e-Islam leader who allegedly played a key role in the mayhem by the Islamist group in 2013.
A team of detectives arrested Mufti Habibullah Mahmud Quasemi during a drive in Dhaka's Bhatara area around 5:30pm, said Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner of Wari Division (DB) Police.
He was one of the Hefajat leaders who played a key role by being there at Motijheel's Shapla Chattar during the 2013 mayhem, he said.
"Habibullah claimed himself to be an executive member of Hefajat's recently dissolved committee. We are verifying his post in the group," Azharul Islam Mukul, additional deputy commissioner of Demra Zonal Team, who led the drive, said.
He was one of the key organiser of "Rabetatul Waizin Bangladesh", a platform of Hefajat speakers which controls Waz Mahfils across the country, the DB officer added.
