CTTC arrests 2 over 'plan to attack Jatiya Sangsad', provocative speech
Counter-terrorism officials claimed to have arrested an operative of the banned militant group Ansar al Islam, who was planning an attack on Jatiya Sangsad, and a preacher for his provocative speech.
Sakib, who announced he will attack the parliament, was arrested from Dhaka's Sher-E-Bangla Nagar area around 7:45pm yesterday while Ali Hasan Osama was arrested from Rajbari district early today, Saiful Islam, a deputy commissioner of DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit, told The Daily Star.
CTTC officials said the preacher is known as "Banglar Osama" for his provocative speech. To many of the outfit's members, he is a spiritual leader like Mufti Jasim Uddin Rahmani, who was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison in connection with blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider's murder.
The militant group spread Osama's provocative speeches and books among members. Police are trying to pinpoint his involvement and role, they said.
