A beggar was stabbed to death by another beggar when they went to receive zakat from a businessman's house in Pabna's Boro Bazar area this noon.
The victim, Alladi Khatun (55), along with several hundred beggars, gathered at the house of Harunur Rashid at Panir Tank area of the district to receive zakat, reports our correspondent quoting Nasim Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station.
The OC said Alladi and few other beggars had a dispute over going to the front amidst a huge gathering. At one stage, a beggar suddenly stabbed Alladi, the OC said quoting witnesses, adding that the perpetrator could not be identified immediately.
Alladi was taken to Pabna General Hospital where she succumbed to her injury at about 12:30 pm, the OC said.

"Police are trying to identify him using CCTV footages," added the OC.
This correspondent failed to reach the businessman Harunur Rashid for his comment in connection with the incident.
Asked about the permission for distributing zakat without maintaining physical distancing, the OC said no permission was given to provide zakat in such a way.
