Babunagari asks govt to withdraw ‘conspiracy cases’ against Hefajat leaders

Hefajat-e Islam Amir Junaid Babunagari today demanded immediate withdrawal of "conspiracy cases" filed against 17 Hefajat leaders including its Secretary-General Nurul Islam Jihadi.

The Hefajat chief's demand was sent to media in a statement signed by the party's Organising Secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi.

"A group of terrorists wearing helmets and carrying machetes attacked innocent and peace-loving worshipers at the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram on March 26, without any provocation," Babunagari said in the statement.

"Police also opened fire. Given this, the common worshipers formed mass resistance in self-defense," he said.

Babunagari also claimed that Hefajat had no programmes on that day (March 26).

"Therefore, conspiratorial and false charges have been filed against 17 central leaders of Hefajat on purely political purpose. I urge the government to withdraw these conspiratorial cases immediately. Otherwise, the government will undoubtedly be more hated and condemned by the people because of its excesses with Islamic scholars," he added.
