After year-long investigation, 3 charged with killing Gazipur City Corporation engineer
After a year-long investigation, police have pressed charges against three people, including a sacked assistant engineer of Gazipur City Corporation, in a case filed over the murder of executive engineer Delwar Hossain in May last year.
The accused are: engineer Md Selim alias Anis Howlader (41), hired goon Helal Howlader Shahin (45), and microbus driver Habibur Rahman Khan (35).
All three were arrested after the murder and they had given confessional statements before magistrates on different dates. They are now behind bars.
Sheikh Mofizul Islam, an inspector of Turag Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka on May 21 this year, showing 33 people as prosecution witnesses.
In the charge sheet, the IO said Anis was the mastermind behind the murder as the victim had boldly confronted him (Anis) regarding some of his illegal activities.
The two other accused had executed the plan being instructed by him, the charge sheet added.
In his confessional statement on May 27 last year, Anis told the court that following conflicts, he hired goons and killed the victim.
