7-year-old found dead in a pond in Khulna
Police recovered the body of a seven-year-old boy from a pond in Khulna's Dighalia upazila this afternoon, a day after he had gone went missing.
The deceased was identified as Tamim Mollah, son of Tarikul Mollah of Lakhohati village in the upazila, said Ripon Kumar Sardar, inspector (investigation) of Dighalia Police Station.
Quoting the family members, inspector Ripon said Tamim had gone out of home yesterday evening to go to a nearby mosque for Maghrib prayers and did not return home.
The police official said they primarily suspect that the boy was strangulated to death as the victim's hands and mouth were tied with towels and injury marks were found on his neck.
Locals spotted the body of Tamim in the pond one kilometre away from his house and informed police.
Later, the law enforcers recovered the body this afternoon and sent it to the Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, our Khulna correspondent reports, quoting the police official.
No one was arrested over the incident, said the inspector, adding that several units of police are working to investigate the incident and arrest those responsible.
