20 injured in Pirojpur clash, 3 held
At least 20 people were injured during a clash over harvesting paddy in Pirojpur Sadar upazila this morning.
Police detained three people in this connection, our local correspondent reports.
The two-hour-long clash happened between the people of Chungapasha bazar of Durgapur union and Cholisha bazar of Tona union.
According to witnesses, a man named Monir from Tona union locked into an altercation over harvesting rice with Aminul Islam, owner of a rice mill.
At one stage, Aminul assaulted Monir, after which Monir attacked the rice mill along with some others, the witnesses said.
Later, Durgapur Union Parishad Chairman Chan Mia settled the issue among the villagers.
However, a rumour of attacking Durgapur Chairman Chan Mia was miked in the area, following which, villagers rushed there and locked into a clash with the people of Chungapasha bazar.
Later, hundreds of people gathered there and clashed with each other over the issue, leaving 20 injured.
Chungapasha Bazar Committee General Secretary Md Saiful Islam said the problem created at the rice mill was instantly solved, but people from Tona union attacked the people in Chungapasha Bazar area.
Abdus Sobhan, an inspector of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, said three people were detained in connection with the incident.
The situation in the area is now under control, the official said.
