Rayhan’s 'death in custody': suspended ASI remanded after arrest

A suspended assistant sub-inspector of police was placed on a five-day remand today, after Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested him in connection with Rayhan Ahmed's death, allegedly in police custody, on October 11.
Sylhet Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman passed the order after PBI sought seven days' remand for suspended ASI Ashek Elahi, said Mohidul Islam, PBI Inspector and investigation officer of the case.
Ashek Elahi was arrested early last night from Sylhet Police Lines where he was attached after being suspended, PBI Special Superintendent Muhammad Khaled-uz-Zaman said.
Meanwhile, the court granted a three-day remand for constable Harunur Rashid as he was produced before it on completion of his five-day remand, our Sylhet correspondent reports quoting PBI Inspector Mohidul.

Rayhan (33) of Neharipara area in Sylhet city died at Sylhet MAG Medical College Hospital on October 11 morning, an hour after he was brought in by police personnel of Bandarbazar Police Outpost.
The next day, his wife filed a case with Kotwali Police Station accusing several unnamed people, alleging that her husband was tortured inside the outpost which led to the death.
