Pabna transport strike postponed till Monday
Transport owners and workers in Pabna have postponed their indefinite transport strike till Monday following request of the local administration, Habibur Rahman Habib, president of Pabna district unit of Transport Owners Association, confirmed to The Daily Star.
Earlier today, road communication of Pabna with 22 districts came to a halt since this morning after the indefinite transport strike came into effect.
Meanwhile, a coordination meeting of the Pabna transport association leaders with leaders of transport associations in Shahzadpur and Ullapara upazilas of Sirajganj could not bring fruitful result till this evening.
"Pabna transport owners and workers association leaders along with representatives of the district administration waited in Bera for holding meeting with the transport leaders from Shahzadpur and Ullapara upazilas of Sirajganj. Few transport leaders of Ullapara upazila came to the meeting but no representative from Shahzadpur transport associations joined the meeting. Due to lack of participation, the meeting failed to resolve the problem," Habibur Rahman said.
"The district administration requested us, so we have postponed the transport strike from 6:00pm today.
"If the six point demand cannot be fulfilled within Monday, we will go for further strike," Habib added.
Transport owners and workers association in Pabna announced indefinite transport strike in the district at around 6:00am today protesting rampant extortion at Shahzadpur on Sirajganj highway and continuous harassment of the transport workers and passengers, pressing home their six-point demands.
