Miscreants attempt to kill Rakhine man in Cox’s Bazar

Miscreants attempted to kill a Rakhine man near his fish enclosure in Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar last night.

The victim, Mongsing Thowang Rakhine, 41, is now undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said police.

The incident happened in Harbang area around 8:30pm yesterday, said our Cox's Bazar correspondent, quoting police and family.

Tetola Rakhine, sister-in-law of Mongsing Thowang, told our correspondent that a worker of the fish enclosure found Mongsing lying on a land adjacent to the local Buddhist temple around 8:30pm.

He was first taken to Malumghat Christian Hospital and later shifted to the CMCH this morning as his physical condition deteriorated, she said.

The miscreants slit his throat with sharp weapon and might have left him near the temple, thinking he was dead, Tetola Rakhine added.

Quoting the victim, his elder brother Mongkai Rakhine said four unidentified people were involved in the attack.

Victim's brother filed a case with Chakaria Police Station accusing unnamed people in this connection, said Shaker Mohammad Jubayer, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Police are looking into the matter, added the police official.
