Man murdered by nephews

A man was killed allegedly by his nephews at Pagadubi village in Sarishabari upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The deceased was Monsur Ali, 55, son of late Abul Hossain of the village.

Locals said Sathi Begum, 30, daughter of Abdul Mannan of Bonogram village in the upazila, married Zakir Hossain, 35, nephew of Monsur of Pagadubi, four years ago.

After their marriage, the couple used to lock into altercation over family matters.

Around 9:00pm on Saturday, Monsur and other family members of Zakir and the family of Sathi sat together for an arbitration to settle the feud between the husband and wife.

During the arbitration, majority of both the family members found Zakir guilty, said police.

At this, Munsur got humiliated and hurled abuse at Zakir, said Billal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sarishabari Police Station.

At one stage, Zakir and his brother Baki Hossain punched and kicked Monsur, leaving him unconscious.

Munsur was rushed to the upazila health complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead, said the OC.
