Locals demand arrest of AL leader for ‘killing father-son’ in Pabna
The residents of a village in Pabna staged a demonstration yesterday demanding arrest of local Awami League leader Belal Hossain and some of his supporters for allegedly killing a father-son duo on October 14.
Belal, president of AL ward unit, and his men allegedly attacked the house of the deceased Torab Ali, 75, and his son Fazlul Haque, 40, in Deshbilai village of Vangura upazila on the day of the incident, alleged Alfa Khatun, wife of Fazlul Haque.
"They attacked us as one of the women of our family filed a complaint against one of Belal's fellows Mofizul Islam for harassing her," Alfa said.
"As my husband and father-in-law tried to stop the attackers, they beat them up," she said, adding that Torab died on the spot while Fazlul succumbed a few hours later.
A case was filed against 18 people with Vangura Police Station in this connection, reports our Pabna correspondent quoting Mohammad Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Already five of the accused have been arrested, but the key accused Belal was on the run, he added.
"We are trying to nab the culprits," the OC said, adding that additional police force was deployed in the area for the safety of the villagers following the incident.
