Include village police in national time scale: HC
The High Court today directed the government to include Mohalladars and Dofadars of the village police to 20th and 19th grades respectively of the national time scale and to pay their due salaries and allowances as per the time scale since June 2, 2011.
Delivering verdict on a writ petition, the court ordered the LGRD secretary to submit a report to this court after complying with the directive before the Mujib Borsho.
Bangladesh will celebrate the “Mujib Borsho” from March 17, 2020, to March 26, 2021, through various programmes marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Today, the HC also ruled that the retirement allowances of the village police members will be counted from the dates of their joining, Barrister Humayun Kabir Pallab, the lawyer for the writ petitioners, told The Daily Star.
He said the service of village police will now be considered as the fourth-class employee and they will be paid Tk 18,000 to 20,000 as monthly salary.
The HC bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil came up with the verdict following the writ petition filed by 355 village police members including Lal Miah in 2017 seeking directive on the government to implement its 2008 decision to include the service of village police as the fourth-class employee.
Barrister Humayun Kabir Pallab said there are around 47,000 village police members, across the country and all of them will get the equal facilities following the HC verdict.
A Dofadar and a Mohalladar now get Tk 7,000 and 6,000 respectively as monthly salaries and they are not included in any grade, he added.
Deputy Attorney General Wares Al Haruni and Assistant Attorney General Mahfuzur Rahman represented the state.
