Embezzlement of over Tk 100cr: ACC detains land official of Maheshkhali

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today detained a land officer (tehsildar) along with a broker of Maheshkhali upazila in Cox's Bazar, for their alleged involvement in embezzlement of over Tk 100 crore.
Mohammad Joynal Abedin, deputy assistant land officer of Kalarmarchhara union Land Office, and Mohammad Toufiq, a broker, were detained around 12pm from GEC intersection of Chattogram city, said some ACC officials.
Joynal's name came up in statements given by brokers, who were earlier detained on charges of corruption and various irregularities, amounting to over Tk100 crore, in the Land Acquisition department of the Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner's Office, the officials said.
During investigation, ACC also found Joynal's involvement in corruption.
Based on these allegations, a team led by Sharif Uddin, deputy assistant director of ACC's Chattogram Integrated Office-2, conducted a drive and detained Joynal and Toufiq, the said.
