Bangladesh Hindu, Bouddha, Christian Oikya Parishad today staged demonstrations in Dhaka and Chattogram, protesting recent communal attacks across the country.

A group of Oikya Parishad activists gathered in front the National Museum in Shahbagh around 10:00am for two hours and held a rally there, reports our staff correspondent from the spot.

They demanded putting a stop to attacks on minority communities, which they claimed were done through spreading rumours of "hurting religious sentiment".

They also demanded that the government form a commission to investigate all the attacks since 2012.

Nearly 500 people of 10 associations -- representing minority groups -- took part in the programme.

In Chattogram, another group of the parishad took to the streets in New Market intersection of the port city.

The blockade caused traffic jam, reports our Chattogram correspondent.
