Another Narayanganj blast victim dies, death toll now 34
Another person, who suffered burns in the Narayanganj mosque blast incident, died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka today.
Shahadat Hossain Sifat (18), had 22 percent burns on his body. He breathed his last around 10:00am, said Partha Sanker Paul, resident surgeon of the hospital.
With him, the death toll in the blast rose to 34. Two others injured in the blast are still receiving treatment at the burn institute.
They were shifted to a ward as their condition improved, the doctor said.
Second among three siblings, Sifat passed his SSC examinations this year and was preparing for admission to colleges.
The explosion happened at Pashchim Talla Baitus Salat Mosque in Naryanganj around 8:45pm during Esha prayers on September 4.
Fire officials said the explosion was caused due to an accumulation of leaked gas from an underground Titas Gas pipeline that somehow came in contact with an electric spark.
Titas Gas has suspended eight of its officials and staffers in connection with the blast. Criminal Investigation Department later arrested the Titas staffers for their negligence.
