Abducted schoolgirl rescued, one arrested
Police rescued a schoolgirl, abducted from Dharla river basin Banagram village under Kulaghat union in Sadar upazila of December 16, from Chattogram on Saturday night.
The law enforcers also detained one Shakil Ahmed from the spot for his alleged involvement in the abduction.
Police first confirmed Shakil's location by tracking his mobile number and then conducted a drive in Chattogram and rescued the victim, Sub Inspector (SI) of Sadar Police Station Mrigendra Nath, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said.
Quoting the victim's family members, SI Mrigendra said Shakil picked up the girl, a Class VI student at a local school, on December 16 and took her to one of his relatives' house in Chattogram.
Meanwhile, police are yet to arrest the culprit and rescue another schoolgirl, abducted from Kalmati village under Khuniyagachh union in the same upazila about three weeks ago.
Victim's family members said Manowarul Islam, 26, son of Ashraf Ali of the area, and his men picked up the schoolgirl, a Class VIII student, from the village on November 13.
Father of the abducted victim alleged that although SI Halimur Rahman, also IO of the case, is assuring them that they would rescue their daughter soon but no steps have been taken yet to rescue the victim.
