4 die, 9 missing after trawler capsizes in the Bay of Bengal
Four people died and nine others went missing after a fishing trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal, nearly 65 kilometers away from St Martin's Island early today.
Lt Arifuzzaman Rony, in-charge of St Martin's Island station of Bangladesh Coast Guard, said the fishing trawler, FB Janjabil Chumken, sank in northwest Bay early hours of today due to creating inclement weather.
On information, three ships of the Bangladesh Navy and two ships of the Coast Guard started the rescue operation, he said.
The teams recovered the bodies of four people and rescued 13 people from the sea till 5:00pm, said Lt Arifuzzaman Rony, adding that the coast guard and Navy jointly continued their rescue operation.
Nine people remain missing till filing of this report at 6pm, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports, quoting the official.
The bodies and the rescued people will be taken to the Naval base in Chattogram, added the coast guard official.
