‘Drug peddler’ killed in Bhairab ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Bhairab Municipality area of Kishoreganj early today.

The deceased Selim Mia, son of Syed Mia of Panchabati, was wanted in ten cases, said Mokhlesur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station.

Being informed that a gang of drug traders were dealing with drugs in the area a team of police conducted a drive in the area at Gachtalaghat, he said.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the drug peddlers fired gunshots to police forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, which led to the “gun battle”, leaving Selim dead on the spot, the OC added.

Police also recovered one pistol, 510 pieces of Yaba tablets and 24 bottles of Phensedyl  from the spot.

With the latest one, some 110 people have been killed during 'gunfights' with members of law enforcement agencies, while 33 bodies of drug traders have been recovered after reported gun battle among rival groups since May 15.
