Covid-19 surge worsening: 85 deaths, 5,727 new cases recorded in 24 hours

Eighty-five people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours (till 8am today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With this the total number of deaths in the country has reached 13,787 and the death rate stands at 1.59 percent.
At least 5,727 new infections were recorded during the period, taking the total number of people infected to 8,66,877, added the release.
The current positivity rate is 20.27 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.53 percent.
A total of 28,256 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours.
At least 3,168 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.
The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,91,553 and the recovery rate at 91.31 percent.
Among the 85 deceased, 55 were men and 30 were women. Of them, 10 between 31-40, 11 between 41-50, 18 between 51-60 and 46 were above 60 years old, added the release.
