Covid-19 death toll in Bangladesh crosses 2,000
Fifty-five people have died from coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, said during a briefing.
The death toll now stands at 2,052 and the death rate at 1.26 percent.
Two thousand seven hundred and thirty-eight people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
With this, the current infection rate is 19.57 percent and the total number of infections in the country is 1,62,417. The total infection rate so far stands at 19.20 percent.
A total of 13,988 samples were tested in 68 labs across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.
Meanwhile, 1,904 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.
The total number of recoveries has reached 72,625 and the current recovery rate is 44.72 percent.
A total of 449 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours.
Among the deceased, 18 were female, she said. Of the deceased, 19 were from Dhaka, 13 from Chattogram, six from Khulna, one from Rajshahi, five from Barishal, eight from Rangpur, two from Sylhet and one was from Mymensingh division.
Of them, one was between 0-10 years old, three between 31-40, 17 within 41-50, 13 between 51-60, nine between 61-70 and 12 within 71-80 years old, Dr Nasima also said.
According to the DGHS data, 48.73 percent of all deceased were over 60, while 28.90 percent were aged between 51 and 60, 15.16 percent between 41 and 50, while others were 10 to 40 years old.
Among the total deaths, 1,060 Covid-19 patients so far died in Dhaka division and 634 so far died in Chattogram division.
