Covid-19: Cases in India cross 6-lakh mark
India's coronavirus cases' tally went past six lakh mark today, just five days after it crossed the five lakh mark, with a 24-hour increase of 19,148 cases.
The death toll rose to 17,834, reports our New Delhi correspondent quoting the country's health ministry data.
Covid-19 cases increased to 6,04,641 while 434 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, the data showed.
The number of recoveries maintained a steady rise and stands at 3,59,859.
Delhi recorded 2,442 fresh coronavirus cases on Wednesday night, taking the infection tally in the city to over 89,000, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 2,803, according to the authorities.
Recently, Delhi had eclipsed Mumbai as the worst-hit city in the country by the pandemic.
Mahesh Verma, the head of a Delhi government committee tasked with strengthening the preparedness of hospitals to battle coronavirus, has said the city's Covid-19 tally may not reach 5.5 lakh cases by July-end as estimated earlier, but one needs to see how the virus behaves during the monsoon.
