Combatting Covid-19: US delivers oxygen, medical supplies to Bangladesh

The United States through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) donated emergency Covid-19 medical supplies to Bangladesh to help save lives and stop the spread of Covid-19.
This US delivery is worth nearly $3 million and includes personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare professionals and other frontline workers, laboratory equipment to expand Covid-19 testing, oxygen cylinders, and medicines to better manage and ensure timely critical care interventions for Covid-19 patients, said a press release.
Bangladesh government will distribute these supplies and medicines to health facilities in the border regions where the need is greatest amid the current surge of Covid-19 in the country, the release reads.
US Ambassador Earl Miller officially handed over the suppplies to Lokman Hossain Miah, secretary of Health Services Division of MOHFW and Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, director general of DGHS during the event.
"Today's handover of Covid-19 supplies and medicines is one of the many examples of our successful and unique partnership as we find our way through the crisis together," said Ambassador Earl Miller during the event.
The event was organised by DGHS with the support from USAID's MaMoni Maternal and Newborn Care Strengthening Project: Emergency Response to Covid-19 Pandemic implemented by Save the Children in Bangladesh, added the press release.
