SC lawyer Imtiaz gets bail

Supreme Court lawyer Imtiaz Mahmood has got anticipatory bail from the High Court in a case filed under section 57 of the ICT act.

The HC granted the bail until police submit an investigation report to the lower court.

The judges also issued a rule asking the government to explain in two weeks why Imtiaz should not be granted regular bail in the case filed with Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station over Facebook posts.

The HC passed the order and rule on Tuesday following a petition filed by Imtiaz seeking bail.

One Shafiqul Islam filed the case against Imtiaz on July 21 alleging that the Facebook post hurt his sentiments and incited communal violence in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
