The HC however, ruled that the owners of the structures can apply to Rajuk for converting their structure into commercial structures.
If Rajuk approves their application for converting the structure into commercial building, they can run their business.
The HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and AKM Jahirul Haque delivered the verdict after disposing of 233 writ petitions.
Barrister ABM Altaf Hussain, a lawyer for several of the writ petitions, told The Daily Star that the High Court ordered Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) to demolish the illegal structures of Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara if their owners do not remove them in next 10 months.
The RAJUK has issued a notice in 2015 to remove the illegal structure from Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara, he said.
The owners of the structure then filed separate writ petitions with the HC challenging the legality of Rajuk’s notice.
