UK envoy hails BNP's backing city polls candidates

After meeting BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan residence yesterday, British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert Gibson hoped that the Election Commission would play its due role in managing the city polls.

Gibson welcomed Khaleda's decision to reduce tensions by returning to her home, and hoped that other confidence building measures would follow, said a statement. He also hailed BNP's decision to endorse candidates in the polls allowing the electorate a real democratic choice and hoped for peaceful campaigns.
