Two lives lost in Habiganj road crash
Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj yesterday, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports.
The deceased were identified as Jamir Uddin (40) and Shakil Ahmed Ramim (35), said Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station OC Masuk Ali.
Police were preparing to send the bodies to the 250-bed Modern District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Bahubal Model Police Station OC Kamruzzaman said a CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from Sreemangal collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from Habiganj in new market area.
The motorcycle rider and pillion were both severely injured and taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, later the doctors declared them dead, he added.
TWO DIE AFTER BEING HIT BY TRAINS
Our correspondent from Chandpur reports, two people were killed and another was injured as trains hit them in the district over 24 hours till yesterday afternoon.
The deceased is Mehedi Hasan (28) from Sheikh Bazar in Chandpur while the injured is Zahirul Islam (55).
According to eyewitnesses and police, the Chandrika-bound Sagarika Express coming from Chattogram hit Mehedi's motorcycle at a level crossing in the town's Wireless area yesterday, leaving him dead on the spot. Pillion passenger Md Rajon Khan (30) was injured and was admitted to Chandpur Sadar Hospital. Mehedi Hasan's body was kept there for autopsy.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, Zahirul Islam, who was sitting on the rail line, was killed by Sagarika Express in Enayetpur area. On information from locals, railway police recovered his body, said Saleh Ahmed, an eyewitness.
Railway Police Station OC Murad Hossain said both the bodies were later sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Chandpur Railway Station Master Shohaibul Sikder said the rail crossing where Mehedi Hasan died was not approved by the railway authorities.
