Transport strike in Ctg division on Jan 18, 31

Chittagong regional committee of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Shramik Federation called a transport strike for January 18 and 31 in Chittagong division demanding arrest of "kidnappers" of a leader of transport workers.

Declaring the strike at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club yesterday, Md Musa, president of the federation, alleged that police were not taking actions against the abductors of Nurul Islam.

Detective branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police rather "tortured" Nurul Islam -- who was abducted from city's Saltgola on August 19 last year and released on August 21 -- in the name of interrogation, he said.

"We will observe a half-day strike on January 18 and dawn-to-dusk strike on January 31", he added.
