Notun Bazar slum fire: 21-year-old dies of burn injuries

A 21-year-old, who was severely burned in Friday's fire at Notun Bazar slum in Kalyanpur in the capital, died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka today.

Anwar Hossain (21), a worker at a scrap-metal shop inside the slum, breathed his last at the intensive care unit (ICU) around 2:00pm, Partha Sankar Pal, resident surgeon of the institute, told The Daily Star.

Anwar with 75 percent burns and his co-worker Akter Hossain (19) with 50 percent burns were admitted to the institute on Friday, said the resident surgeon.

Akter is now undergoing treatment at the ICU of the institute but his condition is critical, Partha Sankar added.
