Jaintapur sees road crash at same spot for second day
For the second consecutive day, a road accident occurred in the same area of Sylhet's Jaintapur, killing three people and injuring two others this time.
The accident occurred on Sylhet-Tamabil highway yesterday when a Jaflong-bound brick-laden truck crashed into a roadside motor workshop around 1:30am when the driver lost control of it, said Omar Faruque, inspector of Jaintapur Police Station.
The deceased were identified as owner of the workshop Sohel Ahmed (30) of Golapganj upazila, Ashik Ahmed (31), and Sultan Ahmed (30) both of Gachbari Nayagram village in Kanaighat upazila.
Police and fire service personnel recovered the bodies and sent them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College for autopsy. The injured -- Sumon and Sahel -- are also undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police seized the truck but the driver fled.
The accident comes within a day after a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the same highway, killing five people including four of a family.
In Sirajganj, at least three people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Mohisluti's Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway yesterday morning.
The accidents took place at Mohishluti Bazar and on the highway's Bridge 9 areas. The first one occurred at 6am while the second one an hour later.
OC Md Sajahan Ali of Hatikumrul highway Police Station said the accident at Bridge 9 took place when a rock-laden truck hit and a vehicle carrying newspaper and killed Shahin Hasan (44) on the spot. Three others were also injured, of whom Saddam Hossain (32) died on the way to Sirajganj General Hospital.
Around 7am, a speeding truck collided with a courier service van at Mohishluti Bazar, killing the truck helper on the spot. Three others were also injured, police said.
Identity of the helper, aged around 20, could not be known immediately.
